How to Begin the Process of Felling a Logan

When a tree becomes too large for its space or starts to pose a safety threat, it may need to be cut down. While some homeowners are tempted to take on this task themselves, it is important to hire an experienced professional for this job. A professional can ensure that the job is done correctly and safely.

Before you start cutting, examine the area where you will be working. Make sure that there are no power lines in the vicinity, and that it is safe to move around the area. If there are, call the utility company immediately. Also, clear any brush or smaller trees away from the tree that you will be felling. This will help to prevent limbs from falling onto you while you are working. Finally, be sure to clear an “escape route” away from the tree, so that if it falls over you will be able to escape.

Having the right tools and equipment will help to ensure that you can safely fell the tree. You will need a chainsaw with a sharp blade and a set of hand pruners. It is also a good idea to bring a pair of sturdy work gloves and a hat. It is also a good idea to wear ear protection to protect your ears from the noise of the chainsaw.

To begin the process of felling a logan, you will need to remove any dead or dying branches from it. Next, you will need to make a notch on the side of the log. This notch should be about one-third of the way down from the top. After making the notch, you will need to saw about halfway into the log. This will create a hinge to guide the log as it falls. Once you have made this cut, you will need to insert wedges. These will help to minimize tension and protect your saw from getting pinched by the wood as it is being cut.

Once you have made the notch and wedges, you will need to saw horizontally into the tree at about a 45-degree angle. This will make the tree start to fall. Once the tree begins to fall, you will need to move back up along your escape route. You will need to continue cutting until the top of the log reaches the ground.
